At Penn State students can enroll in the collaborative classes listed below. On occasion, especially when a student would like to pursue a specific project, it is possible to program chamber music with more than two partners (even when the class' description does not reflect this option). This allows some flexibility to tailor projects originating from students' requests. Click on the class number to see a description on the PSU website, or see all class descriptions below.
Individual class descriptions:
How do these classes work? Do I have to find a partner prior to enrolling in a specific class?
Students enroll in one or more classes of their choice. Dr. Enrico Elisi, in collaboration with the instrumental and vocal faculty will assign a partner, a small ensemble, or a large ensemble to collaborate with. A syllabus with the details will be distributed at a meeting taking place at the beginning of each semester. After the groups are formed--usually within a couple of weeks of the beginning of each semester--Dr. Elisi will decide the students responsible for their own groups (i.e., student group coordinator). The group coordinator (usually a student enrolled in a class) will be in touch with Dr. Elisi and all the members of his/her group; he/she will create a regular rehearsal schedule on behalf of the group and will be in charge of every aspect of the collaboration. Regular class meeting will take place with vocal and instrumental faculty, as well as Dr. Elisi. During the semester, two public collaborative performances will take place.
